Day 8 - July 29, 2009

So I made it past a week but then disaster (see top left corner). I am never using another spiral bound sketchbook again even if the watercolour paper is made with the energy of windpower. My fault too. I should have cut it out with a knife or at least look for scissors first. If I want to reproduce it I can always "heal" it in photoshop.

Anyway, slightly more than a sketch compared to the last couple of posts. I painted this from a photograph I took of a florist in Paris. Beautiful roses everywhere.

Day 7 - July 28, 2009

Another quick sketch. I keep seeing chandelier images that catch my eye and wanted to try one myself but not spend too much time on it (had to work on my Japanese writing that night).

Day 6 - July 27, 2009

Another inspiring photograph in Homes and Antiques magazine. Just a quick sketch. I was drawn to the orange ewer and I love chairs (there will probably be more chair images to come).

Day 5 - No new watercolour but photography instead!

It's a long story but I slipped up this day although I created so much on Saturday that I don't feel guilty (yet). Here's a cyanotype photo created in Photoshop of my collection of vintage cameras. It's one of a pair posted on etsy.

Day 4 - July 25, 2009

I love Chinoiserie wallpaper. This was inspired by a picture in Homes and Antiques magazine.

Day 3 - July 24, 2009

Inspired by a photo taken from our apartment on our last trip to Paris in May 2008. Such beautiful views from both front and back windows (the back included a view of the Eiffel tower). You could never get tired of such views.

Day 2 - July 23, 2009

Again, inspiration from the lovely photographs published on decor8blog.com. And again, with some variation. Starting to warm up.

Day 1 - July 22, 2009

First sketch - a blouse that caught my fancy on decor8 with some variation (keeping it simple to begin).

The beginning...

While thinking up a name for this blog I googled "create a day" and got creationist sites. Since this wasn't the intent of this blog I went with easelarts - the name that I use on etsy. While I would love 1000s of people to see this blog and comment I'm really doing it to encourage myself to create an artwork a day. I used to do more art and I'm slowly getting back to it. I figure it was like when I first started at a real gym after university. I got a trainer because I thought that would keep me on my toes to begin with. This blog will be like that trainer, waiting for me to keep my daily appointment. Maybe not as scary, though. Hopefully not. I was in a bit of a rut there for awhile with the daily routine of going to work, coming home exhausted, watching tv and going to bed. With a case of "underemployment" at the moment, all of this has changed and I feel so much better for it.

So hopefully I will have some people witness my achievements (and failures) along the way and also hopefully see an improvement.
