Okay, it's not painting but it did take up a couple of days and that everything else was put on the backburner. AND I think it was creative in a way. So here are pictures of our new windows. We live in a 1913 house but most of the trim had been taken out at some point and we're just putting it back now. I used all salvage wood except for the window sills, which my brother made, and the piece of wood that goes under the sill. Otherwise it was spare wood or wood from a 1920s house that was removed a short time ago. Someday someone else will moan about that house losing its character.

So to enjoy the good weather I took my paper and paints outside to do this piece but I'm afraid with juggling everything I kind of missed the mark on this one. In fact, looking at it I see things I would change but I'm posting it anyway as a kind of reminder to myself.

This image is a re-interpretation of one found in the magazine Body and Soul (I love that our library has such a good selection of magazines).

Maybe I should have been painting from nature instead. I have to paint the weird flowers we have growing. Maybe someone out there will know what they are. Should I put that on a to-do list for this week? It's already getting pretty full but there should be some afternoon when I could do it. I probably won't have too much to do at the museum this week, for example.

I think you'll be seeing a few Indian inspired images in the next few entries. I saw a coffee table book at the library and just had to take it home. Gorgeous photos! The colours are fantastic. It's called India: In Word and Image with photos by Eric Meola. Get to use a brighter palette as well. I still think it could be brighter. I think the way I've treated the darks caused the oranges to look a bit muddy. Just means I have to try more images from this book.

Well really it was completed before bed last night but I'm counting it as today's contribution although there may be another one.

Finally an image of our house as requested by my husband. There may be another as I'm still not sure about this one but we'll see. It does feature our new front window, which is a lot more aesthetic than the last one.

It's a 1913 semi-detach in an old part of the city known by real estate agents as "Upper Beaches". It takes nearly 20 mins to walk to said beach but it's a nice walk down (totally uphill on the way back).

Ah the long weekend here when I thought I would be posting more creations but I'm just enjoying the last days of summer before they are gone so a bike ride through the city yesterday and back-to-reality chores today meant only one completed but it is less than a sketch so that's better, right? This was inspired by a post on decor8 again. I've simplified it for, let's face it, ease but also to appear less cluttered so there is only a bar of soap on the shelf.

Tomorrow (hopefully) I will work on an image of the house (finally!).

August 23, 2009 - forgotten post!

Just found this work hiding in my spiral bound small watercolour sketchbook. It was lurking in there with a couple of others that I had posted and two that I started but didn't finish. So here it is, a ginger jar in Chinoiserie glory.

Three pics last night to test out my new watercolours. Got a yellow-grey, as it turns out, more Payne's Grey, and light oxide red (or "rouge anglais" in French, which seems more interesting). The somewhat abstracty one is based on a photo of quilt pieces pinned to a board. I just liked the pattern and changed it somewhat.

Not sure why I did the avocado. Maybe the huge amount of guacamole lurking in my fridge leftover from the weekend party? And it used my new yellow-grey.
